Islamic Republic arrests Afghan anti-Taliban protesters in Mashhad

According to information from the sources, this gathering took place around 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, in front of the Taliban-controlled Afghan consulate in Mashhad. Participants in this assembly took to the streets in protest against the detention of women in Herat and in support of their fundamental rights.


One of the attendees at this gathering told media outlets that Iranian authorities had not issued permission for the protest; however, despite this, a number of Afghan migrants gathered in front of the Afghan consulate building.


According to this protester, the purpose of holding this gathering was to defend human rights and support the right to education and employment for women in Afghanistan.


Sources also say that the detainees were taken from the Golsher region and from in front of the Afghan consulate building in Mashhad by the police of the Islamic Republic.


This protester added that during the gathering, security forces detained more than 20 participants and took them away.


Videos received from the scene show a number of young girls and boys present near the gate of the Afghan consulate, holding protest banners and chanting the slogan "Jobs, Education, Freedom."


This incident comes as on Friday as well, the law enforcement forces of the Islamic Republic had prevented the holding of a coordinated gathering of Afghan migrants with police in the Golsher region of Mashhad. According to the migrants, security forces arrived at the scene, dispersed the gathering, and detained and transferred a number of participants.

Informed sources in the city of Mashhad say that the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran have detained a number of Afghan citizens, including students and civil society activists, who had gathered to protest the detention of women in Herat.
