The body of a young girl was found in the Kunar River in Watapur District.

According to local residents, the body of this child, who was about ten years old, was retrieved from the water by people in the area.


The identity of this girl has not yet been determined, and no details are available regarding the circumstances of her fall or drowning.


Sources say that despite several hours having passed since the incident, local Taliban officials in Kunar have so far provided no official explanation regarding this event.


Every year, with the onset of spring and the rising water levels in rivers, the risk of children drowning increases in many parts of Afghanistan; however, social activists say that the lack of preventive measures, weak local management, and the Taliban's neglect of citizen safety have turned these threats into recurring tragedies.


Taliban critics also say that the surge in insecurity, the collapse of basic services, and the absence of support programs for children have transformed Afghanistan into an unsafe environment for children and families to live in—a situation that, in their view, the Taliban bear direct responsibility for.

Local sources in Kunar Province have reported that the body of a young girl was pulled from the waters of the Kunar River in the Shingam area of Wata Pur District on Sunday, 27th of Thawr.
