Taliban interrogates Afghan citizens with German citizenship in Kabul

According to the sources, these individuals were held for hours of interrogation after their arrest, and their electronic devices, including their mobile phones, were confiscated.


This group of Afghan citizens had previously been housed in a guesthouse in central Kabul—a residence whose costs were covered by the German government. They were among the dozens who, after the fall of Kabul, had been under support at the German "GIZ" institute in Pakistan and were scheduled to be transferred to Germany.


Germany's ARD News network has also reported that Taliban forces, during the interrogations, confined the individuals in their rooms and even filmed the operation. Taliban agents asked questions about the timing of their return from Pakistan, the duration of their stay in that country, the reason for wanting to travel to Germany, the funding provided, and their previous job duties.


Sources add that, in addition, three guesthouse staff members were also detained by the Taliban, one of whom was released on bail on Monday. As of the late hours of Monday, January 29, none of the residents of this guesthouse were allowed to leave.


Dozens of other Afghan citizens who have acceptance for Germany, after months of waiting in Pakistan under conditions of threats of arrest and deportation, remain in uncertain situations, and some have been returned to Afghanistan by Pakistani police.

Informed sources in Kabul have reported that the Taliban raided the residence of approximately eighty Afghan citizens on Sunday, January 28, who, despite having acceptance for Germany, had been returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan a few weeks earlier.
