Zelensky: Security agreement with the US finalized and on the verge of signing

Zelenskyy stated on Sunday during a press conference in the city of Abu Dhabi that this agreement, after signing, will be sent to the U.S. Congress and the Ukrainian Parliament for the legal process. According to him, this document constitutes an important part of the efforts to ensure Ukraine's sustainable security in the future.


These remarks come as Ukrainian and Russian representatives held the first round of direct talks on Friday and Saturday in Abu Dhabi with the presence of American mediators. The main focus of these talks was to review Washington's proposed plans to end the multi-year war between the two countries; however, the meeting concluded without reaching a specific agreement.


Nevertheless, both sides have emphasized their readiness to continue negotiations. Additionally, a U.S. official has stated that the next round of these talks may take place again in Abu Dhabi next week.


The Ukrainian President, referring to the negotiation process, said that the number of unresolved issues has decreased compared to the past; he warned that Russia is attempting to force Ukraine to relinquish the eastern regions of the country.


Zelenskyy once again emphasized that the government of Ukraine will not retreat in any way regarding the preservation of the country's territorial integrity. He considered America's role in bringing the parties' viewpoints closer to be important and added that reaching a final solution requires the readiness of all parties for compromise.


The Ukrainian President had previously stated that, to pave the way for ending the war, he has foregone his country's accession to NATO and, in exchange, demanded specific security guarantees from Western countries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that the document regarding his country's security guarantees with the United States of America has been fully finalized, and Kyiv is awaiting the official determination of the time and place for its signing.
