After Mamdani's remarks; Trump: Netanyahu will not be arrested in the US

He emphasized in a message on the "Truth Social" network on Monday that "under no circumstances" would such an event occur on American soil. Trump did not name any specific individual in this message; however, he also expressed appreciation for Israel due to what he described as the country's role in the war with Iran.


Trump's statements came after Zohran Mamdani, Mayor of New York, said that the city's legal department is examining legal authorities for the potential arrest of Netanyahu if he enters New York. Mamdani had stressed in an interview with The New York Times that, in his view, Israel's Prime Minister should be tried in The Hague and called him a "war criminal."


The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu in 2024 on charges of committing war crimes during the Gaza war. Israel has rejected this ruling and, while not recognizing the court's jurisdiction, denies any commission of war crimes. The United States, like Israel, is not a member of this court.


In response to the New York mayor's remarks, Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Sunday via the social network X, describing the International Criminal Court as a "kangaroo court" and the arrest warrant for Netanyahu as "baseless." The ministry also claimed that Mamdani is raising such issues to divert public attention from his own mistakes and to target the Israeli government with political attacks.


Benjamin Netanyahu typically travels to New York every year in September to attend the United Nations General Assembly. Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court had also issued arrest warrants on July 7, 2025, for Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, leader of the Taliban, and Abdul Hakim Haqqani, head of the Taliban's Supreme Court, on charges of crimes against humanity, including gender-based persecution.
