Trump: I may declare the Strait of Hormuz "American territory"

On Friday, in a speech in Nassau County, New York, he said Iran is severely failing and claimed that no ship will be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without U.S. permission.


Trump provided no further details on how this decision would be implemented; however, he described the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as "unstoppable" and a "wall of steel." He also said the United States has used its military power to prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons and claimed that U.S. operations have prevented Iran from obtaining such a weapon.


The U.S. President called the Islamic Republic "the world's biggest state sponsor of terrorism" and described Washington's military actions as "a great service to the world." He emphasized that Iran will never acquire nuclear weapons and said the use of U.S. military power to prevent such a possibility has been essential.


Trump also addressed the rise in fuel prices in the United States, saying citizens of this country must accept the increase in gasoline costs as part of the price of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Referring to the gasoline price increase to around four dollars, he said he would not apologize for his decision; because, in his view, the action taken was "the right thing."


In another part of his speech, he referred to developments in Venezuela and said the war in this country lasted only one day and that relations between Washington and Caracas are now good. Trump also said the United States is receiving "millions and millions of barrels of oil" from Venezuela.

Donald Trump, President of the United States, has stated that Washington controls the passage of ships through this waterway by imposing a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and may soon declare this strait "United States territory."
