Israel announces the killing of two Hezbollah commanders in southern Lebanon

According to the Israeli army, this attack came after a Hezbollah explosive drone struck Israeli forces in the Ali Al-Taher area in southern Lebanon; an incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday and resulted in one officer and two Israeli soldiers being seriously wounded. Israel has also reported the killing of Ali Samir Al-Haj Hassan, commander of Hezbollah's Radwan Group, in a separate attack in the village of Ansar.


In response, Lebanese officials say that Israel's attacks in southern Lebanon on Saturday left at least 11 people dead. According to Lebanon's Ministry of Health and its official news agency, seven people, including three children and two women, were killed in an attack on a house in Ansar, and four others died in an attack on Deir Al-Zahrani. In total, 19 people were also wounded in these attacks.


Lebanon's president and prime minister have condemned the attack on Ansar and stated that the women and children who died in this attack were not military targets. Reuters has also reported that these attacks were among the deadliest in recent weeks in southern Lebanon; attacks that came after a U.S.-backed framework agreement aimed at reducing tensions between Lebanon and Israel.


Under this agreement, Israeli forces remain deployed in parts of southern Lebanon, and the disarming of Hezbollah and the handover of control of southern areas to the Lebanese army are among its main pillars; however, Hezbollah has not agreed to these conditions.

The Israeli army announced on Sunday, August 25, that Abu Hassan Alaa, one of the senior commanders of Hezbollah's Badr Unit, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon. The Israeli army claims that his killing will reduce Hezbollah's operational capabilities.
