UN warns of escalating crackdown on migrants in US

Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, has stated that the United States' current policies toward migrants—particularly detentions and forced deportations—could have serious humanitarian consequences and severely undermine human dignity.


According to him, while countries have the right to regulate their migration policies, such measures must be carried out on the basis of law, transparency, and respect for fundamental human rights, and no individual should become a victim of violent and inhumane treatment.


These concerns are being raised even as reports indicate an increase in operations by U.S. immigration forces to identify and deport undocumented migrants.


In the latest incident, a migrant was shot and killed during an operation by immigration agents in one of the U.S. states—an event that has sparked widespread human rights reactions.


The United Nations emphasizes that border security must not serve as a pretext for violating human rights and calls on the United States to undertake a serious review of its migration policies.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has expressed deep concern over the increasing harsh measures by the United States government against migrants, deeming this approach contrary to the fundamental principles of human rights.
