Russian Foreign Ministry warns its citizens against traveling to Afghanistan

Sergei Malov, the Russian Foreign Ministry's representative in Nizhny Novgorod, stated that the Taliban is a highly orthodox regime and that traveling to Afghanistan requires adherence to laws that are unfamiliar to Russians.


Malov explained that upholding faith holds great importance for the Taliban, and they do not tolerate religious diversity, intellectual differences, or variations in personal lifestyle. He emphasized that the Taliban's laws regarding women and many other aspects of life may pose problems for Russian tourists.


This Russian official noted that Russia is the only country that has recognized the Taliban, yet it has still issued a travel warning to its citizens.


Malov's remarks come as the Taliban's Ministry of Culture had previously invited Russian tourists to visit Afghanistan, with the Taliban seeking to use tourism diplomacy to portray the country's situation as normal.


Nevertheless, many other countries have also warned their citizens against traveling to Afghanistan under Taliban rule, and trips to the country are fraught with security risks and severe restrictions.
