Women's rights activist: The world owes Afghan women and must provide them with practical support

Nelson said at a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly that Afghan women, both inside the country and abroad, have fought every day over the past five years to defend their rights.


She added that the world should not settle for merely describing the situation of Afghan women; rather, it must take action to support them and respond to the courage and determination of Afghan women with similar actions and resolve.


According to Nelson, the statistics on women's rights violations in Afghanistan are not just numbers on paper; behind each of these figures lies the life of a woman and a future that has been taken from her.


This women's rights activist emphasized that no one can better recount the reality of their lives than Afghan women themselves, and the voice of Afghan women must be heard in discussions and decision-making related to Afghanistan's future.


Nelson said that in the current situation, the focus should be on next steps and collaborations that are essential for supporting Afghan women. She also added that the "Vital Voices" organization has collaborated with and supported Afghan women over the past 30 years, and the issue of women's roles in democracy and foreign policy has been part of this organization's activities for years.
