Wall Street Journal: Trump rejects Iran's seven-day ceasefire offer

The newspaper wrote that Trump's current stance indicates that the conflicts will likely head toward the resumption of military attacks once again. According to the Wall Street Journal, Tehran's proposal included reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear negotiations in exchange for the United States lifting the blockade of Iranian ports.


The Wall Street Journal added that the blockade of Iranian ports has inflicted severe pressure and damage on the country's economy. The newspaper also wrote that Trump has publicly stated that the Iranian government will "beg" after the midterm elections to reach an agreement with the United States; an agreement that, according to him, must end the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.


However, the newspaper reported that Trump is not confident about Tehran accepting his demands. These statements come as Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, announced just hours before this report was published that Tehran had presented a specific seven-day plan to the United States for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and that the decision now rests with Washington.


Araghchi had said that if this plan is accepted, its implementation would begin immediately, and the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened on the sixth day. Masoud Pezeshkian, the head of the Islamic Republic's government, also stated in New York that Tehran does not want the revival of an understanding with the United States to be postponed until after the midterm elections; this even as Trump had previously said he expects an agreement with Iran to take shape after the midterm elections.


Meanwhile, the Kayhan newspaper and several government media outlets in Tehran have criticized the proposals put forward for an agreement with the United States. These media outlets have described the aforementioned proposals as a "signal of weakness" to Washington, and Kayhan has also characterized negotiations with the United States under current conditions as a "deception operation."



The Wall Street Journal, citing American officials, has reported that Donald Trump, President of the United States, has rejected the Iranian government's proposal for a seven-day ceasefire. According to this report, Trump told his aides that he expects the bombing of Iranian government positions to resume after the November midterm elections.
