Lancet warns: Nuclear war and artificial intelligence could threaten human survival

In this assessment, 17 major threats to human health have been examined. Nuclear war and the destructive exploitation of artificial intelligence—including for the design and production of biological weapons—rank among the most dangerous scenarios facing humanity.

Experts say that although the likelihood of such disasters occurring is assessed as low, their potential consequences could be extremely widespread and devastating, endangering human health and survival on a global scale.

The climate crisis, air pollution, the growing resistance of microbes to drugs, child malnutrition, the decline in foreign aid, disease pandemics, and armed conflicts are among the other threats highlighted in this report.

According to the findings of *The Lancet*'s Commission on Global Health Threats in the 21st Century, these dangers are not independent of one another and can have reciprocal impacts. For this reason, addressing them requires broad collaboration and coordinated actions on a global scale.

Nevertheless, experts have emphasized that despite the vast scope of these threats, practical solutions exist to mitigate the risks and prevent their catastrophic consequences.

The medical journal *The Lancet* has warned in a recent assessment of global health threats that nuclear war and the destructive use of artificial intelligence, if they occur, could have consequences on the scale of human extinction in the next 75 years.
