Muttaqi and Indian Embassy Chargé d'Affaires discuss expanding Afghanistan-India relations

The ministry stated in a press release on Wednesday, October 14, that Muttaqi emphasized the importance of relations with India during this meeting and noted that the volume of trade between the two countries is increasing. He also stressed the need to enhance communications and cooperation between the two countries and their private sectors.

According to the Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release, the Indian chargé d'affaires also emphasized New Delhi's desire to expand engagement with the Taliban administration and develop relations with Afghanistan in the political, economic, and humanitarian spheres.

Taliban officials had previously, in meetings with Indian representatives, called for expanding economic cooperation, resuming halted projects, and completing India's unfinished initiatives in Afghanistan.

Over the past two decades, India has implemented numerous projects in Afghanistan's infrastructure, education, health, and development sectors. Following the Taliban's return to power in August 2021, a significant portion of these projects was halted or faced restrictions; however, New Delhi has increased its engagement with the Taliban in recent years and resumed some of its humanitarian aid and development cooperation with Afghanistan.

The Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Amir Khan Muttaqi, the foreign minister of this group, held discussions with Yatin P. Patel, the chargé d'affaires of the Indian Embassy in Kabul, on expanding bilateral relations, increasing trade exchanges, and strengthening economic, political, and humanitarian cooperation.
