Iran announces its readiness to mediate between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis

Ismail Baghaei, the ministry's spokesperson, said on Friday, October 16, that Tehran can help reduce tensions and resolve disputes peacefully.

Baghaei told reporters that Yemen's armed forces make decisions based on their own interests and assessments. He added that escalating the conflict benefits neither side, and Iran is prepared, if requested by the warring parties, to utilize its capacities to end the crisis.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson also called for an end to foreign intervention in Yemen's affairs and the lifting of the naval and air blockade on the country. He emphasized that the past 12 years of experience have shown that military actions and sieges have failed to resolve the Yemen crisis.

According to the report, clashes between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis have intensified in recent weeks; the Houthis have attacked Saudi Arabia with missiles and drones, and Riyadh has responded with airstrikes. The rift between Tehran and Riyadh over Iran's support for regional armed groups is a longstanding issue in the relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, a senior Houthi official previously told the Associated Press that Iranian advisors in the past had primarily played roles in strategic planning and did not appear directly on the battlefield; however, according to him, their role has expanded in recent clashes, encompassing everything from tactical maneuver planning to collaboration with frontline commanders. These claims come as Tehran denies accusations of providing military support to the Houthis.

Iran's Foreign Ministry has rejected Saudi Arabia's accusation of Tehran providing military support to Yemen's Houthis and announced the Islamic Republic's readiness to mediate between the two sides.
