Afghanistan Journalists Center: Restrictions on media and journalists have increased

This center, on Monday, 6 Miizan, coinciding with World Day for Access to Information, issued a statement saying that female journalists have also encountered even greater restrictions in both state and private media.


According to this institution, the publication and republication of programs from several international television networks has been banned, and the restrictions imposed on media have further reduced the scope of their operations.


The Afghanistan Journalists Center has also announced that the ban on broadcasting images of living beings in 25 provinces has, in some cases, led to the forced closure of dozens of television networks.


The center's statement notes that journalists, due to their independent coverage of events and also establishing contact with media operating outside Afghanistan, have faced instances of arrest, threats, and prosecution.


The Afghanistan Journalists Center has called on the Taliban to cancel all orders and restrictions that conflict with media laws and the right to access information, and to end censorship and pressure on journalists.


This institution, in another section of its statement, has urged the international community to increase support for Afghanistan's independent media and journalists who are at risk.



The Afghanistan Journalists Center says that the activities of media outlets and journalists in this country have faced increasing restrictions; restrictions that range from pre-publication censorship of content to preventing coverage of protests and requiring pre-approval for publishing certain materials.
