OCHA: Taliban-Pakistan conflict threatens security of civilians and aid workers

OCHA announced in a report on Saturday, 9 Aqrah (October 31), that the persistent tensions and clashes have put at risk not only the residents of areas near the border but also returning migrants and aid workers. Nevertheless, the United Nations and its humanitarian partners continue to provide assistance to those in need in the border areas and reception and transit centers.

According to statistics from this agency, from January 1 of the current calendar year until early October, at least 600,000 people have crossed the Torkham border crossing, with 85 percent of them being migrants expelled from Pakistan.

This office has also reported that clashes on Wednesday in the border areas resulted in the death of one child and the injury of one aid worker. The Taliban police command in Paktia also announced on Friday that following the explosion of an unexploded mortar shell fired from Pakistan in the Dand Patan district, one child was killed and four others were injured.

OCHA has called on the warring parties to take the necessary actions to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, including aid workers and humanitarian facilities. This agency has emphasized that it must be ensured that families can access the assistance they need without danger or hindrance.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations (OCHA) has warned that the ongoing clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan have seriously threatened the safety of civilians and aid workers and disrupted the implementation of humanitarian programs in the border areas.
