Sources: Taliban intervention to cut off music at Badakhshan wedding leads to deadly clash

According to sources, the incident occurred on Saturday night, October 23, during the wedding ceremony of an individual named Atiqullah in the Wandyan village. Taliban forces went to the ceremony to stop the playing of music and celebratory gunfire, after which a clash broke out between them and local residents.

Local sources say that Qari Abdullah Hadi, the Taliban police's director of counter-terrorism in Shahr-e Buzurg district, was killed in the clash, and two Taliban members and at least two local residents were seriously wounded. According to these sources, Taliban forces first opened fire on the residents.

Local residents also say that after the clash, Taliban forces detained at least 25 people and the search of homes and harassment of people in the area continues. The Taliban have not yet commented on this incident or the claims made by local sources.

Since returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban have banned the playing and production of music. These restrictions have affected wedding ceremonies and other gatherings in recent years.

Local sources in the Shahr-e Buzurg district of Badakhshan say that Taliban forces' intervention to prevent the playing of music at a wedding ceremony has led to a clash. In this incident, one Taliban official was killed and four others, including two members of the group, were wounded.
